IF YOU'VE GOT THE BUS, WE'VE GOT THE TOUR!

Learn about Lucan history and follow the route the Vigilance Committee took back in February 1880 ... the night of the infamous Donnelly Tragedy. A member of Lucan Area Heritage will guide your bus through Lucan Biddulph, narrating the history of the area as we go. We will take you through the events that led to the massacre of 5 members of the Donnelly family.

Your tour will also include admission to:
The Museum - highlighting the Ray Fazakas Donnelly Collection, rotating exhibits, a research area and the gift shop.

Log Cabin - furnished to replicate the Donnelly homestead. Step back in time ... go through each room to recapture and visualize that moment in history when a fateful tragedy occurred in the early morning hours of February 4, 1880.

Hearn's Barn - offers a variety of historic artifacts including argicultural tools, an egg-grading machine, a replica horse used for measurement in the making of harness and an original ice-flooding machine.

The Donnelly Sideshow
~ MUSEUM OPEN FOR THE WEEKEND ~

The Donnelly Sideshow is a true story of romance, faction fighting and murder set in and around Lucan.

Johnny O’Conner, the 13 year old boy who hid under the bed during the attack, surviving, and becoming a key witness in the case, is played by Jeff Culbert. In this dramatization, an adult Johnny O’Conner is out to tell the truth and salvage what little he can for members of the Donnelly family, who were failed by the justice system.

The Donnelly Sideshow is filled with historical fact and tasteful humour. The play is followed by a Celtic Jam Session.

$25/ticket (only 200 available!), and includes one free admission to the Lucan Area Heritage & Donnelly Museum in 2012.

February 28th, 2012 ~ Heritage Dinner

The Annual Heritage Dinner will be held on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 at Lucan Holy Trinity Anglican Church at 6:00pm. The dinner will include a homemade ham dinner followed by a guest speaker, Dr. Nina Reid-Maroney, of Huron College at U.W.O. For more information contact Muriel Culbert at (519) 227-4766 or email murielc@ezlink.ca.

Dr. Nina Reid-Maroney’s research centres on the history of the American Enlightenment, on religion, women and anti-slavery movements in the 19th century. Dr. Reid-Maroney has published a number of books and recently completed a book about race, religion and Canada’s first ordained woman in Protestant ministry.

She is currently working on two research projects -- the American Revolutionary: Benjamin Rush, and a Community-University Research Alliance, The Promised Land Project (PLP), focusing on recovering and re-interpreting the history of African Canadian communities in the nineteenth century. The PLP engages students as researchers, and it is their work on the Wilberforce and the historical influences and context of this community which Reid-Maroney will be sharing with us.
