Lucan Poppy Project
Late last year one of our members suggested starting a poppy project to knit and crochet 1,111 poppies to hang at the Lucan Legion to mark Rememberance Day. We partnered with the wonderful folks at the Lucan Library and we quickly surpassed our goal with the help of our community! So we have now gone ahead and established a stretch goal of 1,111 poppies to adorn the Granton Cenotaph as well. Any extras, we will use to decorate buildings in town like the Library and Museum.
Folks are encouraged to help out! How can you help?
-
Create! You can knit or crochet your own poppies and drop them off at the Museum or Library during operating hours.
-
Donate! You can donate red and black yarn to the Museum or Library for community members to use.
-
Shout! Let folks who you think would want to help know about the project!
-
This is a community driven project to commemorate the incredible sacrifices made by members of this very same community to protect Canada and the world. It's minuscule gesture compared to that sacrifice, but one to keep the memory alive.
The patterns below are the ones we are using, but you can use your own too!
Fridays at 11am, there is a Poppy making session at the Lucan Library. Jane, one of our members, has generously offered to teach folks how to crochet during these sessions if you'd like to learn!
